Our Story

IN 2010 CODY AND AMY PERSELL TRAVELED TO JUAREZ, MEXICO AND WERE SHOCKED AT WHAT THEY ENCOUNTERED.
During the late 2000’s Juarez became a practical war zone. Many people were thrust deep into extreme poverty. From 2008 to 2012, the city of 1+ million was widely seen as the most dangerous place on Earth. Nearly 100,000 jobs were lost and the murder rate reached nearly 4000 murders in a single  year at its worst. Over the following years Cody continued to return and develop relationships with the community. He discovered that while the Juarez locals appreciated the assistance given, becoming self-sufficient was their deepest desire. After developing relationships in Juarez and experiencing the hardships the local community faced on a daily basis, Cody made it his mission to empower the community with dignity to become self-sufficient. For seven years Cody, his wife Amy, and a few friends financially supported the humanitarian projects going on in Juarez until the need became too great for just a few people to tackle on their own. In 2017 The International Empowerment Project (IEP) was formed to go to the hardest and darkest places in the world to empower local communities to flourish.
